About the organisation
Walking Football 4 Health Victoria is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting health, social inclusion, and well-being through a modified version of football (soccer). Originally designed for older adults and individuals with limited mobility, the organization focuses on making football more accessible, ensuring that age, fitness levels, or health conditions do not become barriers to participation.
Mission & Objectives
Walking Football 4 Health Victoria aims to:
Encourage Active Aging – Promote physical activity among older adults to improve cardiovascular health, mobility, and overall fitness.
Encourage Family Participation – Promote physical activity while also encouraging families to play together, strengthening bonds across generations.
Encourage many other demographics, like women, people with disability and people with neurological conditions to become active and social.
Foster Social Inclusion – Create a welcoming environment where participants can connect, build friendships, and combat social isolation.
Improve Mental Well-being – Engage individuals in a team-based sport to boost mental health, reduce stress, and enhance self-esteem.
What is Walking Football?
Walking Football is a low-impact, modified version of soccer where players are required to walk instead of run. The game maintains the essence of soccer while reducing injury risks, making it ideal for seniors, those recovering from injuries, or anyone looking for a gentle yet engaging way to stay active.
Key Features of Walking Football:
⚽ No running – Players must always have one foot on the ground.
⚽ Non-contact sport – Tackling and physical challenges are minimized to prevent injuries.
⚽ Modified rules – Smaller pitches, lower-intensity gameplay, and reduced ball heights make it safer and more accessible.
⚽ Team-based environment – Encourages communication, teamwork, and social interaction.
The Impact of Walking Football 4 Health Victoria
The organization has successfully created a vibrant community of participants who benefit from both the physical and social aspects of the game. It has been instrumental in:
• Helping older adults stay active in a structured and enjoyable way.
•Encouraging Women to become active in Women Only Environments.
• Providing a supportive space for those dealing with loneliness or mental health challenges.
•Assisting people with disability or neurological conditions to be active.
• Educating individuals on healthy living, nutrition, and fitness through football-related programs.
• Expanding the reach of Walking Football across Victoria through collaborations with local councils, health organizations, and sports clubs.
Why Walking Football Matters
